REFLECTION

Reflection does not only help you improve but it acts as a reminder of your goals. As you reflect on past experiences you also check if the results that you have achieved are in line with your goals and aspirations.

Reflection gives the brain an opportunity to pause amidst the chaos, untangle and sort through observations and experiences, consider multiple possible interpretations, and create meaning. This meaning becomes learning, which can then inform future mindsets and actions.  


How to reflect:

Many people reflect through writing in a journal.  If that sounds terrible but talking with a colleague sounds better, consider that.  As long as you’re reflecting and not just chatting about the latest sporting event or complaining about a colleague, your approach is up to you.  You can sit, walk, bike, or stand, alone or with a partner, writing, talking, or thinking. 


When to reflect:

Most people are driven by their calendars. So, schedule your reflection time and then commit to keep it. And if you find yourself trying to skip it or avoid it, reflect on that! As for me Mondays are the best day to reflect the previous week's work while Sundays are my best days to reflect on my personal life. This gives leverage over circumstances because if I can fix my personal life on Sundays, on Mondays I will be able to reflect clearly on my work because my personal life is in place.

How long?

If an hour is too much for you, try 10 - 20 minutes. Or doing it in parts of less than 5 minutes.Target an area of your work personal life that you want to reflect on and as your reflect on that area, try to write down what makes you achieve or not achieve your target in that area.
