According to Maynooth University, interests are those work activities which hold your attention and fire your enthusiasm. As our career plays a large part in most of our lives, it makes sense to choose a career which plays to your interests and your strengths. While your skills are the activities/work that you are good at (they could be natural talents or skills that you mastered from parents/high school/university). Finally, the Values are what you really care about and which give you a sense of purpose, not only in your personal life, but also in a work situation. Our values are influenced by a number of things such as upbringing, family, home life, culture and education. Examples of values are: love, honesty, independence, success.
Now that we know what are interests, skills and values we can now use them to create the future we seek.

Choosing a career path that allows you to use your skills (or competencies) will likely result in greater success. You do not need to have a confirmed career goal or even a major to begin identifying and building transferrable skills. These are skills you can learn in one setting, but utilize in multiple settings, such as communication, leadership, teamwork, technical, and interpersonal skills.
Your values are the things that bring purpose, meaning and passion to your life. Identifying your values can help you feel more connected and committed to a major or career. Find careers that match your broad work values.
